What are facial thread veins?

Facial thread veins are tiny blood vessels which run close to the surface of the skin. They look like thin red or occasionally purple or blue lines. They appear when blood vessels become enlarged which cause the veins to appear broken. The medical term for them is telangiectasia.

What are the causes of facial thread veins?

There are a number of causes including overexposure to the sun, drastic changes in weather, excessive alcohol consumption, hormonal changes such as pregnancy, sudden changes in pressure such as severe vomiting or sneezing, or they may simply be genetic. People with rosacea often find they suffer from facial thread veins as the skin is red and flushed.

How does laser treatment work?

Laser treatment is a safe, effective way to banish thread veins. The light from the laser is directed at the veins causing them to heat up very quickly. This heat will cause the vein to break down and collapse in on itself which may present as some bruising on the skin’s surface. The damaged vein gradually dissolves and is removed through the body’s natural immune system, leaving the skin smooth and clear.

What is the treatment process and how many sessions will I need?

Depending on the size and number of thread veins, this will differ. Which is why our clients attend a consultation with one of our specialist doctors to create an individual treatment plan. We typically recommend to start with a course of 3, however the amount of treatments needed may differ from person to person. Treatments are carried out at 4-week internals.

How long will the treatment Last?

Our clients report up to a 75% visible reduction with just one to three treatments. This is a semi-permanent treatment due to the fact that the treatment may in some cases shrink, but not obliterate the thread veins. If this were to happen, the thread vein may reappear in time.

What is the aftercare ?

We also recommend using Aloe Vera is a natural botanical with proven hydrating, soothing and healing properties. This soothing gel cools whilst protecting the skin from free-radicals and encourages cell regeneration of healthy skin.

  • · Products containing Vitamin A should not be used for three days prior to your treatment.
  • · Avoid alcohol or aspirin 24 hours before your treatment, due to increased risk of bruising.
  • · Avoid excessive heat such as saunas, steam rooms or aerobic activity for three days after treatment.
  • · Do not use exfoliators or products with Vitamin A until the skin has completely healed.
